LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University men's soccer secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over the University of Providence (Mont.) on Friday evening at Community Stadium, with the Mountaineers holding off a second-half surge by the Argos.
EOU opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a strike from
Davis Magee who buried his first goal of the season. That was followed by a second goal from
Daniel Kropf just four minutes later, assisted by
Jesus Alvarez, giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Providence responded early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 47th minute with a goal from Ole Heinsohn. However, the Mountaineers quickly regained their two-goal advantage when
Jahrie Gray found the back of the net in the 49th minute.
The Argos made things interesting in the 59th minute when Bryan Olivera scored to bring them back within one, but EOU's defense held firm, limiting Providence's chances as the Mountaineers sealed the 3-2 win.
