Holecek's Double-Double Leads Mounties Past Walla Walla

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon women's basketball team dominated Walla Walla with a convincing 75-58 victory at Quinn Coliseum on Saturday, propelled by the outstanding performance of Brie Holecek, notching a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

At halftime, the Mountaineers found themselves trailing 39-33, but they staged a remarkable comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Wolves 24-9. During this period, they stifled the Wolves' offense, limiting them to a mere 18.8% shooting. Eastern Oregon displayed dominance throughout the game, particularly in the paint, where they outscored Walla Walla with 44 points to 24. The team's relentless defense translated into 14 points off turnovers, showcasing their ability to capitalize on mistakes. The Mountaineers exhibited a balanced offensive performance, shooting an efficient 52.5% from the field. Eastern Oregon excelled in the fourth quarter with a remarkable 70.0% field goal percentage, securing the victory convincingly.

Brie Holecek's standout performance was complemented by other key players, including Bayley Brennan, who contributed 20 points off a 4-of-9 three-point performance. Beverly Slater displayed her all-around game with 6 points, 6 assists, and an impressive 11 rebounds. Haley Robinett also added 13 points and 9 rebounds, capitalizing on the Mounties' size advantage down low.

Chariah Daniels led Walla Walla with 15 points, while Jaliyah Casem contributed 16 points. However, the team struggled with shooting consistency, finishing the game with a 30.6% field goal percentage.

With this win, Eastern Oregon improved to an 8-4 overall record and a 4-4 conference record. They will look to carry this momentum as they head to Eugene for next week's matchup with the Bushnell Beacons on January 12th.
