Offensive Rebounding and Strong Second Half Lifts Mounties Past Geoducks

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Mounties claimed their fourth victory in a row on Friday, including seven of the last eight, in a convincing 68-47 win over Evergreen State.

A tight game early on, the Geoducks held a slim lead of 17-16 after one quarter of play and trailed by just two points at half. Both teams struggled to connect from distance, shooting a combined 3-18 from three-point range after two quarters. However, Eastern Oregon dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 15 offensive rebounds in the first half that provided crucial second-chance possessions.

The Mountaineers responded after a lackluster first half with an offensive explosion in the third, winning the quarter 22-8 and shooting 6-7 from range in the second half on their way to the victory.

Eastern Oregon displayed a well-rounded performance, with four players scoring in double digits. Brie Holecek led the Mounties with an impressive six three-pointers and 26 points, while Haley Robinett also filled the stat-sheet with one of her most impressive all-around performances of the year, recording 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Thuyvi Tran led the Geoducks with 12 points, despite being held scoreless by the Mounties in the second half. Jalyn Sackrider was the only other player to score double figures for Evergreen State, playing through foul trouble with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Despite their efforts, Evergreen struggled to maintain shooting consistency throughout the game, finishing with a field goal percentage of 31.3%.

The Mountaineers now boast an 11-4 overall record and a 7-4 record in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The team will return to Quinn Coliseum for tomorrow's contest against Northwest University, set to tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
