Box Score Glendale, AZ - The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (0-2-2) wrapped up their road trip facing the Firestorm of Arizona Christian University (2-0-1). ACU would clinch a 2-1 win over EOU as they connected with the back of the net in the 84th minute.
The match's first goal came at 7:51, as Arizona Christian's Cristhian Flores scored thanks to a well-placed assist by Kaden Grub. The goal gave Arizona Christian an early advantage and set the tone for the game. The Mounties comeback only got more difficult at 21:38 when the team picked up its first red card of the season.
In a chippy contest, Arizona Christian also found themselves reduced to 10 men when they received a red card at the 60:03 mark. The Mounties managed to pull a goal back at 78:11 when
Edgar Romero Perez scored thanks to a crucial assist from
Yonas Mekonnen.
However, Arizona Christian was awarded a penalty kick at 84:09, presenting a golden opportunity to regain their lead. Marlon Arce stepped up to take the penalty and slotted the ball into the net, putting Arizona Christian ahead and scoring the game winning goal.
Eastern Oregon will return to La Grande and host Blue Mountain CC in a friendly scrimmage on Sept. 9th at 6:00 p.m. before starting CCC play the following weekend.
