Hoskins Throws Fifth No-Hitter

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon was back in action Friday afternoon and they took on the Knights of Warner Pacific University in a Cascade Collegiate Conference double header. Eastern showed to be too much for the Knights as they cruised to a 8-0 game one victory in six innings behind a Kaylie Hoskins no-hitter and a 10-5 game two victory.

GAME 1

Eastern was led in the circle in game one by Kaylie Hoskins. Hoskins, once again, had a dominant outing, racking up 16 total strikeouts in 20 batters faced, while allowing no hits. This is the fifth no hitter that Hoskins has thrown this year. Hoskins got more than enough help from her offense who scored eight runs highlighted by two deep shots over the fence. The first, a solo bomb by Haley Ebner in the bottom of the fourth later followed by a Gates Leatherwood two-run home run over the right field fence. Hoskins and the Mountaineers closed the Knights out in the top of the sixth to take game one by a score of 8-0.

GAME 2

The Knights jumped out to an early game two lead after a Carrigan Foster two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Eastern responded in the bottom half of the first with two runs of their own after a Hannah Tyree two-run single to right field knotted the score up at two a piece. Warner Pacific added two more in the top of the second after an Ashley Hawkins single through the left side scored one and a Mountaineer wild pitch allowed Kassidie Bukoski to score. Eastern bounced back with a huge bottom half of the third, scoring six total runs in the inning highlighted by a Caitlin Crist three-run home run over the left field fence, taking the score to 8-4. Crist was not done there as she stepped back up in the bottom of the fifth inning and delivered a double down the left field line that scored Karsyn Zaragoza. Crist then found her way home after a wild throw while stealing third allowed her to score, extending the Mountaineers lead to 10-4. The Knights scored one in the top of the seventh after a Christina Barrett solo home run before the Mountaineers ultimately closed the game out to take a 10-5 game two victory.
