ASHLAND, Ore. – The Mounties got off to a strong start on the first day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships, presented by U.S. Bank. A tight race on the women's side currently has Eastern's Elizabeth Grandle in third place just 145 points behind UBC's Rebecca Dutchak in the top spot after four of seven events in the heptathlon. On the men's side, Israel Miles posted an all-around strong day in the men's decathlon currently sitting in third as well after five of 10 events in the decathlon. In total, four of EOU's five athletes have improved upon their day one scores compared to their last performance.

EOU will return to CCC Championship action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to wrap up the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

WOMEN
EOU's women got off to a strong start led by Grandle who currently is in third place with 2,711 points. The highlight of her day came in the shot put where she finished second with a throw of 11.32 meters. Grandle also took fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and eighth in the 200-meter dash.
 
Currently in sixth place for the Mountaineers is sophomore, Samantha Conley. Conley's best performance came in the shot put where she finished fifth with a throw of 9.9 meters. She also took sixth in the 200-meter sprint along with a couple of seventh place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump.
 
Karli Bedard currently sits in ninth with 2,410 points. Bedard's highest placement came in the 100-meter hurdles where she finished sixth with a time of 15.83 meters

MEN
On the men's side EOU is currently led by redshirt junior Israel Miles. Miles posted an all-around strong day sitting in third after day one with 3,230 points. The Oregon City product picked up two first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash and shot put with marks of 11.41 seconds and 11.24 meters respectively. He also recorded a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, a fourth-place finish in the long jump, and a fifth-place finish in the high jump.
 
Judson Mansfield currently sits in sixth place with a score of 3,005 points. Mansfield's highest finish of the day came in the high jump where he edged out his teammate for fourth place clearing 1.78 meters. The junior also recorded two fifth-place finishes in the 400-meter dash and long jump, as well as two sixth place finishes in the shot put and 100-meter dash.
