Lady Mounties Finish Second at Friday Night Lights Meet

PORTLAND, Ore. – The women had a dominant day at the Lewis and Clark Friday Night Lights meet posting the second-highest team score with 155 points Friday evening. In total, the lady Mountaineers had first-place finishers in seven different events.
 
In the throws the combination of Maggie Ledbetter and Kenna Woodward once again proved to be a deadly duo as the pair took the top two spots in both the shot put and the discus.
 
Ledbetter had a record-breaking day in the women's shot put, besting her old record with a winning throw of 14.11 meters. She was followed by Woodward in second place with a throw of 12.07 meters.
 
In the discus the pair flipped as Woodward finished at the top of the podium with a throw of 35.80 meters followed closely by Ledbetter in second with a throw of 35.77 meters.
 
Over in the jumps, the Mounties put on a show as well taking the top three spots in the high jump. Karli Bedard took the win with a jump of 1.51 meters. She was followed by teammates Elizabeth Grandle and Adrienne Washington who both cleared 1.48 meters to finish in second and third respectively.
 
Moving over to the track, it was Yahaira Chavarria-Mondragon and Morgan Bayes who dominated the hurdles and sprints while Michelle Herbes and Lauryn Mitchel led the way in the longer races.
 
Chavarria-Mondragon won the women's 100-meter sprint with a time of 12.71 seconds. The senior followed her winning performance with a third place finish in the 200-meter sprint.
 
Bayes took two first place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. The senior finished with a time of 15.18 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles followed by a  time of 1:04.92 in the 400-meter hurdles.
 
Stretching things out to the 800-meter run, the Mounties had another first place finisher in Lauryn Mitchell who finished with a time of 2:17.82.
 
In the distance races Michelle Herbes was the highest finisher with a second-place finish in the 1500-meter run. Herbes was just a step behind first place finishing with a time of 4:40.56.

Eastern Oregon returns to action late next week at the Pacific University Multi Events Meet on Thursday and Friday in Forest Grove, Ore.
