ASHLAND, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team faced off against Southern Oregon, resulting in a narrow 57-61 loss. With both teams deadlocked at 23 points heading into the half, Southern Oregon pulled ahead after making 16 free throws in the second half, while the Mountaineers only attempted three.
EOU shot 39.6% from the field on the night, including 38.5% from beyond the arc, and 76.9% from the free-throw line. The team faced defensive pressure from Southern Oregon, resulting in 12 turnovers.
Jonny Hillman led the Mountaineers offensively, scoring all 17 of his points in the second half and connecting on 7-of-11 field goals. Adam Orr also contributed 11 points, hitting two shots from beyond the arc, while Brennen Newsom recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite shooting only 9.5% from three-point range, the Raiders had a fine offensive performance defined by their ability to get to the free-throw line, where they excelled. Bryce Dyer led the Raiders with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.Teron Bradford contributed 13 points as well for Southern Oregon, while Mason Whittaker added 10 points.
The Mounties will look to regroup this week as they prepare to head to College of Idaho and take on the No. 2 ranked Yotes next Saturday in Caldwell.
