PORTLAND, Ore. - The Mounties wasted no time asserting their dominance, leaping to an early 19-4 lead and securing an impressive 87-70 victory over the Multnomah Lions in Portland. Saturday's triumph marked Eastern Oregon's second consecutive conference win, building momentum before their upcoming trip to Florida next week.
Eastern Oregon exhibited remarkable efficiency throughout the game, finishing the game with a 49.3% shooting percentage. The team connected on 46.7% of their three-point attempts, with Garrett Hawkes leading the charge with five successful shots from beyond the arc.
Hawkes concluded the game with 30 points in just 28 minutes for the Mounties, while AJ Huddleston orchestrated the offense with 9 points and six assists. Malachi Afework and Adam Orr ignited from the three-point line, with Afework contributing 18 points and Orr adding 9, courtesy of five combined threes.
Despite the challenging matchup, Multnomah's Taylor Pomeroy led the team with 18 points, showcasing accuracy from the three-point range. Neyland Block also contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, while Tyrese Taylor added 15 points and an impressive 12 rebounds. Miles Macadory's sharpshooting from beyond the arc added 13 points to Multnomah's total.
The Mounties are scheduled to return to Quinn Coliseum on December 30th, hosting the College of Idaho Yotes at 5:00 p.m.
