KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - In a tightly contested Cascade Conference opener, the Eastern Oregon women's basketball team faced a heartbreaking one-point loss against Oregon Tech on their home court in Klamath Falls. Despite trailing by as much as 9 points before half, the Mountaineers clawed their way back to a late lead. However, the Owls secured a narrow 68-67 victory following Olivia Sprague's 10-foot jumper with just three seconds remaining in the game.
The Mountaineers shot 37.3% from the field and 28.1% from beyond the arc throughout the contest. There was 18 lead changes and eight ties on the evening, reflecting the closely contested nature of the game.
It was a breakout game for Eastern Oregon forward
Brie Holecek, tallying an impressive 23 points, complemented by her eight rebounds and two assists.
Bayley Brennan knocked down two three-pointers for the Mountaineers, finishing with 10 points. The Mountaineers shot 37.3% from the field and 28.1% from beyond the arc throughout the contest.
Oregon Tech displayed a balanced offensive attack led by Olivia Sprague, who recorded 15 points and contributed significantly with five assists. Gabbie Gascon's 16 points, including three three-pointers, added to the team's scoring.Â
The Mountaineers will move to 4-1 on the season, looking to bounce back tomorrow evening against the Raiders of Southern Oregon in Ashland.
