Mounties Make it Rain in Win Over Evergreen

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University hosted the Evergreen State Geoducks Saturday afternoon taking home a commanding win. Eastern had one of their best performances from behind the arc all year going 15-33 from deep in a 97-54 win over Evergreen. With the win the Mountaineers move to 13-2 on the year and 8-1 in CCC play. The Geoducks drop to 5-7 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Evergreen did their best to hang with Eastern in the first half, but the Mountaineers hot shooting slowly helped them build a lead. EOU jumped ahead by 10 in the first quarter and tacked four more onto their lead by the end of the second. The first half was a battle between Evergreen's Monique Bungay who led the Geoducks with 10 and EOU's Bayley Brennan who put up 11 in the first half. At the break EOU held the lead, 45-31.

With only seven active players on the evening, depth became an issue for the Geoducks in the second half as fatigue set in. The Mountaineers relied on their bench and spread around the attack with nine players scoring two or more points. Sydney Vanness did her best to keep the Geoducks in it with 10, but it wasn't enough as Evergreen couldn't slow the Mountaineer offense. The Mountaineers pulled away for a 97-54 win.

EOU hits the road for the next two weeks kicking off the road trip with a 5:30 p.m. tilt against Corban this coming Friday. The Mounties will battle the Warriors at Corban in Salem.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Bayley Brennan tied her season high of threes knocking down six on 11 attempts
  • Evergreen's lack of depth hurt down the stretch as their bench accounted for six points compared the Eastern's 45
