La Grande, Ore.- The Mountaineers were back in action Friday night as they took on the Eagles of Embry-Riddle University. The match was back and forth, coming down to the wire. Ultimately the Mounties arose victorious, 21-16.
The Mounties started off hot taking each of their first three matches of the night by decision giving them a 9-0 lead over the Eagles. Embry-Riddle did not go away, they fought back taking their next two matches by tech fall making the score 10-9 in favor of the Eagles. After a forfeit in the 165 pound weight class the Mounties found themselves behind, 16-9. That would be it for the Eagles as the Mounties were able to settle back in taking their next three matches by decision to retake the lead 18-16. It all came down to the heavyweight match to find a winner and Noel Orozco delivered, closing out the match after a back and forth battle with a huge reversal giving him two points leading to a 3-1 decision victory and match victory for the Mounties, 21-16.
Eastern will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 28 as they take on Corban University at home in La Grande, Ore. Match time is set for 3:00 PM at La Grande High School.
