Mounties Take Big Win Over Beacons

EUGENE, Ore.- The Mountaineers closed out the second weekend of Cascade Collegiate Conference play as they took on the Beacons of Bushnell University. The Mounties would  jump out to a quick lead and never looked back. Eastern Oregon would ultimately take the match 9-0 to improve to 6-1-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in CCC play. 

It was a huge offensive day for the Mountaineers as they were able to tally nine goals in the match by six different Mounties. The Mountaineers were on the attack from the start of the match as Megan Gustafson was the first to find the back of the net in the 10th minute giving Eastern a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, in the 26th minute the Mounties would strike again as Kaydence Martinez snuck one past the Beacons defense on an assist from Jasmine Seago. The Mounties continued on the attack and were rewarded once again in the 40th minute when Emmy Williams found the back of the net on an assist from Mackenzie Huotari. After 45 minutes of play the Mountaineers found themselves with a 3-0 lead.

As the second half proceeded, Eastern continued to push past the Beacon defense. Tacking on five more goals in the half which was started by a 51st minute goal by Kana Mateaki and followed right after by a 53rd minute goal by Erika Skindlov. Then, a 56th minute goal by Emmy Williams, a 57th Minute goal by Kana Mateaki and a 61st minute goal by Amanda Gribble capped off a five goal run by the Mounties in 10 minutes of game time. Eastern would add to their goal total in the 86th minute of the match when Kaydence Martinez found the net for the second time in the afternoon.

The Mountaineers will be back in action next weekend when they take on the College of Idaho back at Community Stadium in La Grande, Ore. Kick off is set for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1st.
