Yotes Top Mounties In Hard Fought Battle

LA GRANDE, Ore.- The No. 22 Mountaineers were back in action Saturday night as they took on the No. 24 ranked College of Idaho in a big Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup. The match would ultimately end in a 2-1 College of Idaho victory.

The first half of the match was a defensive battle as neither team was willing to give an inch. It was a physical half as both teams tallied 7 fouls a piece in the first 45 minutes of play. The Yotes were the first to strike in the match as Gianna Yslava was able to strike one past the Mountie defense giving COI a 1-0 lead. Tonight's match saw just 5 shots combined by both teams in the first half with The College of Idaho having both of their first half shots on goal while EOU had one shot on goal of their three shots that were taken. After 45 minutes of play The College of Idaho held a 1-0 lead.

Eastern did not go away as they started off the second half on the attack. Just four minutes into the second half the Mounties were rewarded as Kaydence Martinez found Baylee Shewchuck in the box to even the game up 1-1. COI was able to bounce back after the Mountie goal, going on the attack themselves, they were able to find the back of the net in the 56th minute when a nice pass from Kaitlyn Ramon found Larissa Wagner giving the Yotes a 2-1 lead. This would ultimately be the game winning goal as the Mounties were not able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the match.

EOU will be back in action at home on Friday, Oct.7 as they take on the University of Providence. Kick off is set for 4:00 p.m.
