Mounties Start 1-0 In CCC Play

LA GRANDE, Ore- The Mounties kicked off Cascade Collegiate Conference play as they took on the Lions of Multnomah University. The Mounties had a strong offensive showing as they were able to take the match, 3-0, to move to 4-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in CCC play. The Lions of Multnomah drop to 3-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in CCC play.

The first half of the match was a defensive battle with stellar goalkeeping by each team's respective goalkeepers. The Mountaineers', Dalton Mauzay, had 2 saves in the first half, one of which was a fantastic chasedown, diving save stopping the Lions from being able to strike first. At the end of the first half the score was knotted up at zero with both teams taking 4 total shots. 

As the second half proceeded, EOU was able to find a groove on the offensive end as they were able to strike first in the 47th minute, taking a 1-0 lead after a Erick Diaz goal that was assisted by Edgar Perez. The Mounties were able to find the back of the net two more times in the half. In the 84th minute Senior Max Rose was able to score on a penalty kick giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead. Shortly after, in the 89th minute, Kellen Burke was able to score a last second goal to give the Mounties a 3-0 lead.

For the Lions, Julian Calvo posted 3 shots with 2 being on goal but was not able to find the back of the net. Lions Goalkeeper Pablo Mendoza was able to rack up 3 saves while playing all 90 minutes in the match. 

The Mountaineers will be back in action at home on Saturday, Sept. 17 as they take Warner Pacific University for their second CCC match. Kick off is set for 7:30 P.M.
