Mountaineers Knock Off Knights to Advance to CCC Tournament Semifinals

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball advanced to the semifinals of the 2021-22 CCC Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Tuesday night with a 70-61 home win over Warner Pacific University. With the win, Eastern Oregon Improves to 22-9 on the year.

How it Happened
• Defense was key in the win for the Mountaineers as they held the Knights (13-15) to just 36.6 field goal percentage. On the flip side, Eastern shot 49.1% from the floor.
• Eastern also had a superb night from three-point range going 11-20 for 55% and their defense held WPU to just 6-22 shooting from deep for 27.3%.
• The game's opening quarter was a high tempo one as the two squads combined for 43 points. EOU had a fast start as the team led 25-18 going into the second quarter.
• In the first quarter, Sailor Liefke paced the Mountaineer offense scoring eight points. She had help as Taylor Stricklin put up seven points to give EOU a seven-point lead.
• The second quarter was low scoring compared to the first. EOU outscored WPU 15-11 to help take a 40-29 lead into the halftime break.
• The Knights quickly cut the Mounties lead to just two points, 25-23, with two quick baskets. Eastern answered with an 8-2 run to go ahead 33-25 with 6:22 to play in the half.
• The surge helped EPU stay in front by three possessions the rest of the half. WPU cut the score 38-29 with 1:30 to go in the half, but an Ami Tia layup at the buzzer gave EOU the 11-point lead at the break.
• In the second half, the Knights made things interesting right out the gate going on an 11-2 run to cut EOU's lead to jts two points, 42-40, in the first three minutes.
• WPU ultimately outscored EOU 18-17 in the frame but never tied or took the lead. Despite the surge, Eastern outscored WPU 15-7 the rest of the quarter to lead by 10 going into the fourth.
• Helping EOU respond in the third was a 12-2 run that put the team ahead 54-42. Five points from Adyson Harris with the help of buckets from Stricklin, Liefke, and Haley Robinett helped EOU go ahead.
• The Knights once again barely outscored EOU in the finale frame, 14-13, but never got within two possessions. EOU led by as much as 13 in the quarter en route to the nine-point win.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Sailor Liefke led all scorers with 22 points and dished out a team best five assists.
Adyson Harris scored 18 points on a 7-12 shooting performance and was 3-4 from deep.
Taylor Stricklin added 15 points on 5-10 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.
Maddy Juul grabbed a game best 12 rebounds and chipped in six points.
Haley Robinett also had double-digit rebounds with 11 and scored seven points in the win.

For the Knights
• Hannah Myers scored 21 points and had six boards. She also had two blocks and steals, respectively.
• Lynden Harry scored 14 points and handed out a game-high six assists.
• Courtney Jackson added 11 points in the loss.
• Kylie Guelsdorf grabbed a team best seven rebounds.

By the Numbers
22 - Sailor Liefke, who wears jersey No. 22, scored 22 points on the date 2/22/22.
11 - EOU has won 11 games at home during the 2021-22 season.
23 - The Mountaineers have won the last 23 match-ups against the Knights.

• The CCC Tournament Semifinals. The Mountaineers will hit the road to Ashland, Oregon to take on in-state rival Southern Oregon University. Tip-off against the Raiders will be Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. PT inside Lithia Motors Pavilion.
