ASHLAND, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball saw its postseason run come to an end Friday night in a hard fought 65-58 loss to in-state rival Southern Oregon. Eastern Oregon fell in the semifinal round of the CCC Championships, presented by U.S. Bank and finish the season with a 22-10 overall record.
How it Happened
• Offensively, EOU shot the ball well despite the loss, going 25-55 from the floor for 45.5%. The Mounties defense held SOU (27-5) to 38.3% overall on 23-60 made shots.
• Helping the Raiders secure a spot in the CCC Championship was 20 points off 17 EOU turnovers. Keeping EOU in the fight was 17 second chance points on 13 offensive boards.
• Free throws also favored the Raiders on their home court. They took 20 total and made 13 for 65%, while EOU was just 2-6 for 33.3%.
• In the opening quarter, the two squads traded points with Southern taking a slim 15-13 lead into the second. EOU was paced by
Haley Robinett who scored seven in the first.
• The Mounties grabbed the first lead at 3-0, but an 8-0 rally by the Raider put them ahead 8-3, with 6:03 to play. EOU battled back and tied the game, 13-13, late in the frame.
• A 22-point rally in the second quarter by the Raiders gave them a 37-24 lead at the break. Eastern was held to just 11 points and went into halftime trailing by 13.
• Stemming back to the first quarter, SOU pieced together a 9-2 run to push ahead 22-16. Southern made it a 10-point game, 26-16, with 6:24 to play in the half.
• Eastern looked to respond but never cut the deficit any closer than 10 the rest of the frame. Robinett led the offense at the break with 11 points in the first half.
• Despite being down double figures, EOU made a furious rally in the third quarter. The Mounties scored 13 points and limited SOU to just four to make it a 41-37 game.
• SOU's lone make from the floor came in the first minute after a made shot by EOU to start the half. Eastern then went on an 11-0 run to get within two, 39-37, late in the quarter.
• Four different Mountaineer players scored in the run. Robinett led the charge with four, while a triple from
Adyson Harris and layups from
Sailor Liefke and
Kaiea Waiwaiole rounded out the surge.
• The final two points in the third quarter for SOU came at the charity stripe in the final minute. The two free throws gave the Raiders a slim 41-37 lead going into the fourth.
• Despite their best efforts, EOU never got over the hump to tie or take the lead. The team managed to get within four a handful of times in the final frame, but came up short of the comeback.
• The fourth quarter was the highest scoring with the two squads combining for 45 points. SOU had the edge at 24-21. Liefke paced the offense with nine points in the frame.
• EOU made one final push in the final 90 seconds.
Taylor Stricklin nailed a three to make it 60-56 and Liefke got it to four again on a layup to cut the score to 62-58.
• The Mounties looked to save clock time and fouled, but Southern held composure. They went 6-8 at the line in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Haley Robinett led all scorers with a game-high 16 points on 7-11 shooting and had five boards.
•
Sailor Liefke added 13 points on 6-11 made shots and dished out five assists.

Taylor Stricklin finished with 12 points, going 5-13 from the floor and had six rebounds.
•
Adyson Harris grabbed a game best seven rebounds. She also had five assists and six points.
For the Raiders
• Dominique Harding shot 5-14 for 15 points and had three steals.
• Kami Walk also scored 15 points and had five rebounds.
• Syd'Nee Fryer added 13 points and pulled down a team-high six boards.
• Brianna Phiakhamngon chipped in 10 points in the win and dished out three assists.
