PORTLAND – Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball wrapped up regular season play Saturday night with a 63-49 road win over Warner Pacific University. The win puts the Mountaineers record at 21-9 overall with a final mark of 18-4 in conference play.
Eastern finishes the 2021-22 regular season at third in the final Cascade Collegiate Conference standings. EOU is already locked into the CCC Tournament and will play host to the Knights once more.
How it Happened
• The Mounties only shot 38.8% in the win, but their defense was stout, holding the Knights (13-14, 11-11 CCC) to just 33.3% from the floor.
• The Knights managed to just out-rebound the Mounties, 42-40, but 22 turnovers allowed Eastern to score an extra 15 points to propel them to the win.
• Despite being slightly out-rebounded, Eastern still had 18 offense boards, which led to 15 second chance points.
• Tempo was the theme in the opening quarter as the two squads combined for 37 points. EOU held the lead after one, 20-17, thanks to a 10-point outing from
Taylor Stricklin.
• The second quarter is where EOU created a bit of separation thanks to its defense. The Mounties scored just 11 points, but surrendered only four to the Knights.
• The defensive turnaround in the second quarter allowed the Mounties to lead by 10 at the break. A Layup from
Haley Robinett with 2:22 left on the clock made it a 31-21 lead for EOU.
• In the third, offense picked up once again. EOU scored another 20 points, while WPU tried to keep pace with 13 points.
•
Adyson Harris paced the offense in the third quarter, scoring nine points in the frame. She had help as Robinett added seven in the frame. The surge gave EOU a 51-34 lead going into the fourth.
• WPU barely out-scored Eastern in the final frame, 15-12, but it was not enough for a potential comeback. The team got within 10 midway through the frame, but never cut the deficit to single digits.
