Mountaineers Get Weekend Started with 62-45 Win Over Lions

PORTLAND – Mountaineer Women's Basketball picked up win No. 20 of the season Friday night with a 17-road win at Multnomah University, 62-45. With the victory, Eastern Oregon is now 20-9 overall and moves to 17-4 in conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers shot 41.9% in the road win and held the Lions (5-23, 5-16 CCC) to 31.7% from the floor. Eastern dominated the boards in the win with 51 and held MU to just 28.
• A 14-8 edge in second chance points favored EOU thanks to 17 offensive rebounds. Points in the paint also went to Eastern as they scored 34 and gave up just 22.
• In the first quarter, the Mounties used a fast start  to lead by 13. Eastern raced ahead 15-2 and went into the second leading the Lions 24-11.
• MU responded in the second, out-scoring EOU 15-10. EOU held a double-digit lead most of the frame, but a late rally cut the Lions deficit to eight, 34-26, going into halftime.
• In the third quarter, the Mounties' defense held the Lions to just eight points. Offensively, Eastern scored 13 in the same span and led by 13, 47-34, going into the fourth quarter.
• The fourth quarter once again went in the Mounties favor with a 15-11 edge in scoring. MU got within 10 to start the fourth quarter, 47-37, but was unable to keep pace with EOU.
• The Mountaineers led by as much as 20 on the night over the Lions. Their 20-point edge came in the final minute of regulation, 62-42, before a last second three by MU brought the final to 62-45.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Taylor Stricklin posted a double-double with game-high 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Haley Robinett tied the game-high in points with 14 and grabbed six rebounds.
Kaiea Waiwaiole chipped in seven points in the win and shot a perfect 3-3 in the win.
Maddy Juul tied the team-high in assists with four and scored six points.

For the Lions
• Elise Graham led the offense with 12 points and tallied six steals.
• Bailey Dickerson added 10 points and had three rebounds.
• Kianna Ponce chipped in five points and had a team best four rebounds.

By the Numbers
17 - Eastern has now won 17 straight games against the Lions.
4 - The Mounties have now grabbed 50-plus boards in four games this season.
7 - EOU was disciplined on defense, committing just seven fouls all night.
3 - Eastern has pushed its win streak to three in a row.
