Mountaineers Improve to 9-1 at Home with 73-67 Win Over Geoducks

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball improved to 9-1 at home Friday night, taking down Evergreen State College 73-67 inside Quinn Coliseum. With the win, Eastern Oregon is now 18-9 overall and 15-4 in CCC play.

How it Happened
• Both teams shot the ball well with the Geoducks (8-14, 6-12 CCC) having the slight edge, 46.6%-45.3%. 
• Helping EOU in the win was a 32-33 advantage in points in the paint. The Mountaineers also scored 16 second chance points thanks to 16 offensive boards and ultimately won the rebounding battle, 43-27.
• Evergreen did not make things easy for the Eastern as they led by eight points, 44-36, going into halftime. In the first quarter both teams put up 20 points, with the Geoducks leading 27-20 going into the second frame.
• Midway through the first quarter, EOU and Evergreen were tied 11-all. The game stayed within one possession until a 7-0 run by Evergreen put them in front by seven after the first quarter.
• In the second quarter, the Mountaineers kept pace with the Geoducks, but played from behind the whole frame. Evergreen just barely outscored EOU, 17-16.
• The Geoducks led by as much as 14 in the second and held a double-digit lead most of the quarter. EOU never managed to get within single digit until the final two seconds before halftime thanks to a jumper by Ami Tia.
• Eastern went into the halftime break trailing 44-36, but it was the third quarter that ultimately got them back into the game. The Mounties outscored the Geoducks 23-13 to lead 59-57 going into the fourth quarter.
• A 9-0 run to start the third quarter gave the Mountaineers their first lead since the first as they went ahead 45-44. Evergreen looked to keep pace and tied the game a handful of times.
• The two squads traded buckets and in the final 90 seconds it was a 57-57 tie. Giving EOU the lead going was Sailor Liefke who nailed a jumper in the final 33 seconds to put EOU up by two after three quarters of action.
• The fourth quarter was the lowest scoring as the two teams combined for just 24 points. EOU had the edge at 14-10.
• EOU maintained a 5-7 point lead through the first five minutes, before Evergreen made one final effort at a comeback. The Geoducks trailed 66-59 and went on an 8-0 run to jump ahead 67-66.
• The Geoducks' run gave them the one-point lead with 4:47 to play, but they never scored again. The Mountaineers closed the game out with a 7-0 run to secure the six-point home win.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Sailor Liefke scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Adyson Harris poured in 16 points on 5-8 shooting and also had seven boards.
Taylor Stricklin added 11 points in the win and pulled down eight rebounds.
Haley Robinett chipped in eight points and grabbed a game best nine rebounds.

For the Geoducks
• Sha'nece Garret paced the offense with 19 points and tallied four steals.
• Monique Bungay added 12 points in the loss on a 4-8 shooting performance.
• Tasha Beckett chipped in 10 points off the bench, going 5-6 from the floor.

By the Numbers
7 - Eastern has grabbed 10-plus offensive boards in seven straight games. 
6 - The Mountaineers pulled down 40-plus total rebounds in their sixth consecutive game.
23 - EOU has now won 23 straight games against Evergreen State.

Up Next
• The Mountaineers wrap up home action tomorrow afternoon, Feb. 12, against Northwest University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside Quinn Coliseum.
• It will also be Senior Day for EOU as the team will recognize two seniors in Brandy Smith and Taylor Stricklin. The duo will be honored at halftime of the EOU Men's Basketball game.
