Mounties Open CCC Play with Win Over Hustlin’ Owls

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University started conference play off on the right foot with an eight-point win over the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech. A balanced attack that saw five Mountaineers in the double digits scoring helped lead the Mounties to a now 4-1 record on the season. The loss drops Oregon Tech to 4-3.

Despite the Hustlin' Owls jumping out to an early lead in the first quarter, it was the Mountaineers who controlled the game. EOU outscored OIT in the first three quarters allowing them to cruise to a victory while being outscored by seven in the final frame. The key to the win came in the form of some active hands for the Mounties who racked up nine steals and forced 17 turnovers while only coughing it up nine times themselves. EOU capitalized on those turnovers scoring 19 points playing a big part in the win.

Eastern continues conference play with another home game tomorrow evening taking on the Raiders of Southern Oregon University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum. OIT will hit the road again taking on the College of Idaho with a 3 p.m. tipoff (MST).

BY THE NUMBERS
  • While the two teams shot similar percentages, volume played a big role in separating the two as EOU took 17 more shots on the night
  • EOU had five players score 10 or more points with four putting up 15 or more
  • OIT shot 50% from three on eight attempts but it wasn't enough to match up with Eastern's 9-23 performance from beyond the arc
