Battlin’ Bears Escape La Grande with 1-0 Win Over Mounties

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Mountaineer Men's Soccer suffered a setback Saturday night as the team dropped a hard fought 1-0 contest to Rocky Mountain College. With the loss, Eastern Oregon falls to 6-6-1 overall and 3-4-0 in league play.

The Battlin' Bears (6-4-1, 4-3-0 CCC) scored the game's lone goal early in the second period. A shot from Ethan Maguire in the 48th minute found the back of the net for the gamewinner.

Physical play once again was on display as a trio of yellow cards and one red card were handed out. All four card calls went to Rocky Mountain. Offensively, EOU and RMC each had just three shots on goal. The Battlin' Bears had the over shots advantage at 17-10.

Faris Ceranic and Zhengning Lu each had two shots overall and one on goal to lead EOU. In net, Dalton Mauzay racked up two saves. Maguire led the way with the lone goal for Rocky, while Igor Soares had a game best three shots. Goalkeeper Stefan Schenk had three saves in the win.

EOU will hit the road for its next four games, starting next weekend. The Mounties get the road swing started Friday, Oct. 14 at Southern Oregon. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. in Ashland.
