Mountaineers Turn Back Argos in Close 1-0 Home Win

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Mountaineer Men's Soccer got back to their winning ways Friday night at home with a hard fought 1-0 win over the visiting University of Providence Argos. With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference play. 

The battle on the pitch was close for all 90 minutes. EOU ultimately secured the win with a goal in the 16th minute. Netting the lone goal was Dawson Heuett to give the Mountaineers their third CCC win. Play was physical on both sides with five yellow cards being handed out along with a combined 28 fouls being called.

Along with the one goal of the night, EOU ultimately had the slight edge on offense. Eastern tallied 15 shots with seven being on goal. Providence (0-6-1, 0-5-1 CCC) kept pace with 12 total shots and had five shots on goal. 

In net, Dalton Mauzay produced his second clean sheet of the season and racked up five saves in win. Heuett played the role of hero with the lone goal and was one of five Mounties with two shots in the win.

For the Argos, Sam Fingers played all 90 minutes as well and tallied six saves. Tomeu Nebot led all players with three shots overall and had two come on goal. 

EOU is back in action Saturday, Oct. 8 (tomorrow), for a match-up against Rocky Mountain College. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. inside Community Stadium.
