No. 1 Mounties Sweep Raiders Thanks to Strong Defense

ASHLAND, Ore. – The Mountaineers continued their defensive excellence on Saturday night with a three-set sweep over the Southern Oregon University Raiders. Another double digit block performance helped propel EOU over Southern, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20. The victory pushes EOU's win streak to seven and their record to 26-2.

The first set went the Mounties' way as they totaled 13 kills while holding SOU to a .030 hitting percentage. A big 7-2 run that included three Cambree Scott kills at the beginning of the set helped Eastern take a comfortable 25-17 victory. The second set was the closest of the night and Southern was just two points away from taking the set until Eastern closed it out with a 6-0 run. Scott came up big again with three kills in the final six points to help the Mountaineers take a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 set victory. Just a set away from the sweep, EOU put its foot on the gas to take the third and final set despite a late surge from the Raiders. Taking advantage of 10 attack errors and a -.024 hitting percentage from the Raiders, EOU clinched the match with a 25-20 set win.

Two regular season home matches remain for the Mountaineers. They return to action in Quinn Coliseum Friday, Nov. 4 when they take on Evergreen State College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
