LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 1 Mountaineers took care of business on Friday afternoon when Walla Walla University visited Quinn Coliseum. EOU outscored Walla Walla by 14 or more in each set taking the match in three, 25-7, 25-10, 25-11. With the win the Mounties move to 21-2 while the Wolves fall to 0-15.
Eastern jumped out to a big lead in the first set thanks to a 7-0 run to start the game that included three service aces from Mountie setter,
Alexis McMurtrey. In total the Mounties racked up five service aces in the first set. EOU continued its dominant play in the second set jumping out to a 13-2 lead early and eventually took the second set 25-10.
Walla Walla responded early in the third set and held a lead at the five-point mark, 5-4, but couldn't hold on. The Mounties pulled away and didn't look back winning the third set to take the sweep, 25-11. The Wolves were paced by solid play from Sahara Browning who was responsible for the last four Walla Walla points.
No. 1 Eastern Oregon continues conference play tomorrow night when the Mountaineers host Lewis-Clark State in Quinn Coliseum for their annual pink night. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
