Fast Start Propels Eastern to Blowout Win Over Evergreen State

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball put on a show Saturday afternoon as they routed the Evergreen State Geoducks 82-57 on the road. Eastern Oregon improves its overall record to 12-7 and is now 9-2 in conference play.

How it Happened
• EOU shot the ball well going 32-65 for 49.2% and nailed seven threes on 20 attempts for 35%. Defensively, Eastern held Evergreen (4-10, 3-8 CCC) to just 30% overall and 10.5% from deep.
• Giving the Mountaineers a boost was their reserves who scored 20 points, while the Geoducks had just six. Points in the paint also favored Eastern, 42-24.
• In the opening minutes, EOU grabbed a 6-2 lead after trailing 2-0 to start. The Geoducks responded with four unanswered to tie the game at 6-6. It remained a close battle the rest of the frame.
• EOU looked to create some space yet again and went ahead 11-6, but Evergreen closed the gap and got within one, 11-10, at the midway point of the quarter. Eastern closed out the quarter with a 12-0 run to take a 23-10 lead in the second.
• The Mountaineers' run grew in the second quarter as they scored nine straight points to lead 32-10. The 21-0 run forced an Evergreen timeout in the first two minutes, but it made little difference.
• EOU ultimately scored 11 points in the frame before the Geoducks got points on the board. They did not score until the 5:55 mark, but never managed to keep pace with Eastern the rest of the half.
• The Geoducks performed better in the second quarter scoring 16 points, but 26 by the Mountaineers gave them a commanding 51-26 lead at the break. EOU shot 60% overall (18-30) and went 6-8 from deep for 75% in the first half.
• In the third quarter, the Geoducks put up their best scoring performance with 20 points, but EOU kept pace scoring 19 to lead 70-46 going into the fourth quarter.
• Despite the close scoring third quarter between the two squads, Eastern managed to grab its largest lead of the day in that frame. They led by 36 twice in the quarter by scores of 64-28 and 66-30.
• The fourth quarter was the lowest scoring one of the day as the Mountaineers and Geoducks combined for just 23 points. EOU won the scoring battle 12-11 to secure the 25 point road win and the weekend sweep.
