No. 23 Warriors Outlast Mountaineers

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineer Men's Soccer saw their win streak end at two as they dropped a 2-1 contest at home Saturday evening to No. 23 Corban University. With the loss, Eastern Oregon is now 2-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

How it Happened
• Helping the Warriors (4-3-0, 3-1-0 CCC) pick up the road win was a 13-8 shots advantage with five shots coming on goal. For the Mountaineers, they had three shots come on goal.
• Both teams played aggressively as they combined for 27 fouls. In all, eight yellow cards were issued in the 90 minute slugfest.
• The Warriors first goal of the night came late in the first period as Irwin Leon nailed a shot from the right side 15 yards out to find the back of the net in the 41st minute.
• Going into halftime, Corban had a 6-2 shots edge while both teams both had one shot come on goal.
• The second goal for the Warriors came early in the second period as a handball call against Eastern in the penalty area led to a PK attempt. Saad Mohacht hit the lower right end of the net to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
• The Mounties answered in the 62nd minute. An errant kick by Corban played right into the feet of Greg Rodriguez who seized the moment. He took the ball in stride on the left side and nailed a shot from 15 yards out to the lower right end to make it a 2-1 contest.
• The Mountaineers threatened throughout the rest of the second period with quality shots but the Warriors' defense managed to hold them off to secure the 2-1 win. Overall, Corban barely out-shot EOU in the second frame at 7-6.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Greg Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers and tallied two shots in the match.
• Nathan Wright was the top shot taker with three in the loss.
• Goalkeeper Noah Galow tallied three saves in 90 minutes of action.

For the Warriors
• Irwin Leon scored the gamewinning goal for Corban and had one shot that was on goal.
• Saad Mohacht scored a goal as well and finished with two shots in the win.
• Giacomo Santivale led the way in shots taken with three.
• In net, Justin Keegan tallied two saves in the win.

By the Numbers 
3 - The Mountaineers have scored at least one goal in three straight games now.
1 - Greg Rodriguez's goal is the first of his career for EOU.
1 - Friday's start for Noah Galow is his first at home in his young career.
