Mountaineers Shutout Beacons in CCC Home Opener, 2-0

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineer Men's Soccer posted its second straight shutout as Eastern Oregon took down Bushnell University, 2-0, in its conference home opener. With the win, EOU improves to 2-4-0 overall and is off to a 2-1-0 start in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mounties had the best offensive output this year as they racked up 21 shots against Bushnell (1-5-0, 1-2-0 CCC) and had a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Defensively, Eastern allowed just six shots in the win.
• EOU put on the offensive pressure early on as they ripped off four shots and held the Beacons to just one in the first 25 minutes of play. The Mountaineers movement and quick passing paid off as they scored both goals in the final 15 minutes of the period.
• The first goal by the Mountaineers came in the 32nd minute as Rui Tsubakihara played a pass from the far sideline near midfield to a striding Dawson Heuett. Off the pass, Heuett cut toward the middle of the field and nailed his shot from 15 yards out to give EOU the 1-0 lead.
• The Mountaineers continued to take shots as they looked to add to their lead. It paid off late in the frame as Carlos Murillo found the back of the net. Murillo got down to the end line on the right side and fired a shot that went through the goalkeeper's hand to make it a 2-0 score by halftime.
• A 12-1 advantage in shots by EOU allowed the team to go ahead by two at the break. Complimenting the Mounties offense was a defense that secured the shutout for the second straight game.
• In the second period, Bushnell managed to add five shots but still was out-shot by the Mountaineers who added nine. Despite not scoring again, Eastern put up quality shots that came close to find the back on the net. Regardless, solid play on both sides of the ball led to the home win for EOU.
