Mountaineers Blank Lions for First Win of the Season

PORTLAND - Mountaineer Men's Soccer picked up its first win of the season Saturday evening with a 1-0 road shutout against Multnomah University. Eastern Oregon's win moves their record to 1-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers offense posted 10 shots in the match and had five come on goal in the win. They posted five shots in each period, with the lone goal coming late in the first frame.
• Defensively, Eastern held Multnomah (0-6-0, 0-2-0 CCC) to just five shots on the day and only one came on goal.
• In the early going of the match, the Mountaineers offense applied pressure with solid ball movement and had quality shot attempts. As the frame continued on, the Mountaineers ball movement and pressure finally paid off.
• In the 37th minute, it was the leg of Kellen Burke that found the back of the net to give the Mountaineers the lead. He took a shot from 15 yards out on the right side and hit the upper left corner of the net well past the goalkeeper's reach.
• The score remained at 1-0 going into halftime and through the rest of the match. Play was aggressive through the whole match as the two squads totaled 37 fouls in the match. The Lions had three more at 20-17.
• Both teams finished the match with five corner kicks each, while the Lions had the edge in saves at 4-1. 

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Kellen Burke had the lone goal for the Mountaineers on one shot.
• Santiago Peniche had the most shots with three and had two come on goal.
• In net, Noah Gallow registered the shutout and had one save in the win.

For the Lions
• Noe Magana had the most shots for Multnomah with two and had one come on goal.
• In net, David Lopez had four saves in the loss.
