Mountaineers Open CCC Play with 2-0 Shutout Over Knights

PORTLAND - 15th-ranked Mountaineer Women's Soccer continued its winning ways Friday night with another shutout victory as they took down the Warner Pacific University Knights 2-0 on the road. With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 4-1-0 and starts conference play at 1-0-0.

How it Happened
• Both squads put up double-digit shots with EOU having the edge at 12-10 and a 7-3 shots on goal edge. A pair of second period goals was what did the damage to allow the Mountaineers to push its win streak to four.
• The Knights (1-3-0, 0-1-0 CCC) had the edge in saves at 5-3 while both teams had three corners in the contest. Defense played well for both squads in the first 45 minutes as they battled to a scoreless bout into halftime.
• WPU held the edge in shots at 6-5 in the first 45 minutes of action, but the two squads combined for just three first period shots on goal. In terms of corner kicks, all three for both teams did not come until the second period.
• Out of the halftime break, EOU wasted little time to end the scoreless drought with a goal in the 53rd minutes. Jordan Bartlow got deep into the right side of the penalty area and played a quick cross to the middle and found Morgan Farrington for the goal.
• Farrington played the cross by Bartlow and a quick one touch and hit the lower bottom right half of the net to make it a 1-0 lead for the Mountaineers. The score remained 1-0 until late in the second period.
• In the 74th minute, Kayla Storm found the back of the net to bring the score to its final of 2-0. She took a shot on the right end of the penalty area and it was initially deflected to her. Storm used the deflection to her advantage and took a quick shot from the same spot and connected for the score.
• WPU continued to apply pressure on offense but key stops by the EOU defense and solid play once again from goalkeeper Madeline Barker kept the shutout intact as EOU held on for the two-goal road win.
