Mountaineers Rout Lions to Improve to 2-0 in CCC Play

PORTLAND - No. 15 Eastern Oregon University Women's Soccer put on an offensive showcase Saturday night with a 10-0 thrashing of Multnomah University. With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 5-1-0 overall and start conference play at 2-0-0.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers put up an impressive 38 shots while their defense stymied the Lions (1-3-0, 0-2-0 CCC) and allowed just one shot. In shots on goal, the Mountaineers had a 28-0 edge over Multnomah.
• Eastern wasted little time getting on the board with a goal scored in the first 35 seconds of play. Morgan Farrington found the back of the net on an assist from Kaitlyn McLeod. 11 minutes later, Farrington was fouled in the penalty area and nailed a penalty shot to give EOU a 2-0 edge.
• McLeod joined the scoring barrage in the 16th minute with a goal to make it a 3-0 lead. The show did not stop there as Lindsay Balkenbush found Jordan Bartlow for her first goal of the season in the 30th minute. Leading 4-0, EOU added one more goal before halftime.
• Bartlow assisted on the fifth first period goal when she found Mackinley Gregus for a goal in the 43rd minute. The goal gave EOU a 5-0 advantage as they put up 21 shots in the first 45 minutes of action.
• The second period was the Kana Mateaki show to start as she posted a hat trick for the Mountaineers. Her first goal was in the 53rd minute to make it a 6-0 lead. Mateaki pushed the lead to 7-0 in the 62nd minute with her second goal of the night.
• The third and final goal of the night for Mateaki came late in the contest as she posted the hat trick in the 80th minute. Her hat trick made it an 8-0 advantage for the Mountaineers, but that was not the end of the show.
• Goal number No. 9 of the night came on the foot of Gregus for a second time. She scored in the 85th minute on her own efforts and it seemed the match was over at 9-0. Enter Balkenbush for the 10th and final goal. She scored in the 89th minute to close out the offensive showcase.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Kana Mateaki posted a hat trick in the win and finished with four shots, all of which came on goal.
• Morgan Farrington scored two goals, with the first one of the night being the gamewinner.
• Mackinley Gregus had a pair of goals in the win and led the way in shots with seven.
• In net, Madeline Barker picked up the win to improve to 5-0.

For the Lions
• Melanie Martinez had the lone shot in the match for Multnomah.
• Goalkeeper Trisha Priest had 16 saves in the loss.

By the Numbers
5 - The Mountaineers have now five straight matches, with each coming via shutout.
4 - EOU has now won each of its first four road games this season.

• The Mountaineers are back home next weekend as CCC play continues on. EOU will host Bushnell on Friday, Sept. 24 with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. PT inside Community Stadium.
