Volleyball Looks to Continue Winning Ways As Conference Play Rolls On

LA GRANDE, Ore. - 14th-ranked Mountaineers Volleyball continues its road trip this weekend as the team heads to the west side of the state for a pair conference matches.

First Serve
• The Mountaineers continue what is a five-game road trip with two more games this weekend in Portland.
• Eastern got its road swing started on a positive note with a 3-0 sweep against College of Idaho on Tuesday.
• The Mounties are playing in Portland for a CCC match for the first time since 2019.
• Following the two matches this weekend, EOU will close out its five-game road trip next week at Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.

• The Mountaineers are currently on a three-game winning streak and have won each of their last 12 regular season road contests, dating back to the 2019 season.
• In the Mountaineers three straight wins they have all come in sweeping fashion.
• Against this weekend's opponents EOU is a combined 41-1 against them and 19-0 in road contests.
• The Mountaineers enter the weekend still nationally ranked at No. 14.

Quick Hits
Last Time Out

• The Mountaineers got their five-game road trip started in style with a 3-0 sweep of College of Idaho  on Tuesday night.
• EOU hit .314 in the win led by Madison Morgan and Sade Williams with nine kills each. Morgan also had five blocks in the win.

Previously Against Multnomah/Warner Pacific
• Last season, EOU took down the Lions in its two matches in straight sets. The last time the Mounties played MU in Portland, they won in straight sets.
• Since 2015, Eastern is 12-0 against MU with all but one match ending in straight sets.
• In two neutral site matches last season, the Mountaineers downed the Knights 3-0 in both. In 2019 in Portland, EOU dispatched WPU in four sets, 3-1.
• Since 2006, the Mounties are 29-1 against the Knights. The lone win for WPU came in 2006, but since then EOU has won 29-straight.

EOU in the Polls
• EOU checks in at No. 14 in the third edition of the NAIA women's volleyball coaches' top-25 poll.
• In the CCC preseason poll, Eastern was picked to win the conference ahead of Corban and Southern Oregon. The Mountaineers tallied eight first place votes and totaled 140 points.
• The next set of NAIA top-25 rankings will be released next Wednesday, Sept. 29.

Three's Company
• Of the Mountaineers' 13 matches so far this season, 10 have ended in straight sets.
• EOU has fared well in three-set matches with a 7-2 record.
• The only 3-0 losses for EOU have come against ranked opponents in Bellevue (Neb.) and Corban.

Home Sweet Home
• Since 2011, EOU has fared well at home in the past decade with a 102-11 record.
• In that span, the Mountaineers have never lost more than two games at home.
• Under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead, EOU is 134-21 at home.
• The Mountaineers have posted two undefeated seasons at home under Morehead in 2013 and 2016.

Road Warriors
• Dating back to the 2019 regular season, EOU has won each of its last 12 matches.
• Under the direction of Kaki McLean Morehead, the Mountaineers are 106-45 in true road contests.
• In the Mountaineers current 12-game road win streak, six have ended in straight sets.

Scouting the Competition
Multnomah Lions

• The Lions enter the weekend at 2-4 overall and are 1-4 in conference play. MU is coming off a 3-0 road win at Warner Pacific. The only other win for the Lions came against George Fox in late August.
• Offensively, the Lions are averaging 9.1 kills per set but are just hitting .063 per match. They average 8.4 assists per set and have tallied 61 on the year.
• Defensively, the Lions are surrendering 10.8 kills per set to the opposition and have allowed opponents to hit .178 against them. MU is averaging 16.4 digs per set.
• Jocelynn Porter leads the way in kills with 50 total and is averaging 2.38 per set. She is hitting .072 per match.
• Second in kills is Kamaile Labanon with 43 total and averages 2.05 per set. Sitting third is Danae Stokes with 34 (2.62). Her kills per set average leads the way for the Lions. She is second in service aces with seven.
• Rachel Bailey is the team leader in assists with 83 and averages 5.93 per set. She also has three service aces on the year.
• Second in assists is Madison Gombio with 61 for an average of 4.36. Leading the team in service aces is Lauren Porter with 10.
• Leading the back row defense is Alyssa Mehalovich with 94 and averages 4.48 per set. Second on the team is Labanon with 60 for an average of 2.86 per set.
• Jennifer Crago is the leader on the front end with nine total blocks, with seven being assisted. Sitting second in blocks is Hannah McPhetrifge with eight total.

Warner Pacific Knights
• The Knights are still in search of their first win going into the weekend as they stand at 0-8 overall and 0-5 in CCC action. They have yet to win at home and are 0-3 on their own court.
• Offensively, the Knights are hitting just .059 on the year and average just eight kills per set. They are dishing out 7.5 assists per set and have 49 service aces.
• On defense, WPU is surrendering a .248 hitting percentage to opponents and allowing 12.2 kills per set. The Knights are averaging 15.6 digs per set.
• Grace Buchanan is currently leading the way on offense with 115 kills and 4.11 kills per set. She hits .122 on the year and has the second most service aces at nine. She also leads the team in blocks with five total.
• Second in kills is Tevlin Britten with 34 and averages 1.21 per set. 
• Matalasi Laban is the team leader in assists with 142 and averages 5.07 per set. She is tied for third in service aces with eight.
• Sabah Mohammady is the team leader in digs with 84 and averages 3.00. She is also the team leader in service aces with 11.

Up Next
• The Mountaineers wrap up their five-game road trip next weekend against Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. EOU takes on the Hustlin' Owls on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. PT followed by the Raiders on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. PT.
