SPOKANE, Wash. – Eastern Oregon University Women's Lacrosse made history Friday afternoon as the team got its first-ever "W" under its belt with a 22-16 exhibition win over Whitworth University on the road.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers and Pirates played four 15 minute periods. EOU outscored Whitworth in three of the four frames to secure the road win. The only period Whitworth had more goals was the third at 5-4. EOU also finished with the shots advantage at 42-35 and had more ground balls at 17-16.
• The Pirates struck first with a goal in the first 1:14 of play to go up 1-0, but
Saydee Hetrick found the back of the net at the 10:40 mark on the clock to tie the contest at 1-1 early on. Whitworth answered back quickly and retook the lead with 10:07 left to play in the opening frame.

Samantha Buckley got things rolling as she netted back-to-back goals to give EOU its first lead of the contest at 3-2.
Kennedi Tuliau made it a two-goal lead, 4-2. for the Mounties with 3:39 to play in the first on an assist from
Regann Donahue. Whitworth managed to tie the game back up at 4-4 late in the period, but Buckeyley gave EOU the lead back with 19 seconds to play on a pass from Hetrick.
• With the goal, EOU went into the second with a slim lead at 5-4 but never allowed the Pirates to tie the contest up the rest of the game. The Mountaineers strongest period in terms of goals scored came in the second as they found the back of the net seven times.
• Hetrick and Buckley continued strong offensive play for Eastern with a goal each to start the second and the Mounties lead was at 7-4. Whitworth looked to counter and scored with 9:05 left to play until halftime. EOU had an answer though scoring the next three goals to go up 10-5. Donahue and Buckley each netted a goal in the short surge with Kina Watchman capping the run with her first goal of the game.
• The Pirates managed to outscore the Mounties 3-2 in the final six minutes of the second period, but the early surge by EOU was the difference maker. Hetrick and Watchman had the final two goals for the Mountaineers as they took a 12-8 lead into halftime.
• The game's fast pace continued on in the second half and in the third period it was the efforts of Hetrick that kept the offensive momentum going for the Mountaineers. Whitworth outscored EOU 5-4 in the third, but three of the four goals for Eastern came from the stick of Hetrick.
• The Pirates scored two-straight goals in the first minute of the third period to get back within two, 12-10. Hetrick then took over and scored two-straight of her own to push the Eastern lead back to four, 14-10. Buckley chipped in the only other goal at 11:12 to play, while Hetrick's fourth goal of the frame was at the 6:02 mark of play.
• Two goals at the end of the third and one to start the fourth for the Pirates once again made it a two-goal contest with EOU clinging to a 16-14 lead. With just over 13:30 to play in regulation, the Mountaineers outscored the Pirates 6-2 to hold on for the road win.
• Buckley and Watchman were the difference makers in the fourth as they scored all six goals for the Mountaineers. Buckley totaled four while Watchman added two. EOU's defense was also a factor as
Jaiden Mitchell allowed just three goals in the final 15 minutes of play.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Samantha Buckley led all players with a game-high 10 goals. She also had a pair of assists and led the way in caused turnovers and ground balls with five and seven, respectively.

Saydee Hetrick tacked on six goals in the win to go along with an assist. She had two ground ball pickups in the win as well.

Kiana Watchman finished with four goals scored to earn a hat trick and tallied two assists. She was second in ground balls on the team with four.

Kennedi Tuliau and
Regann Donahue each had a goal scored in the victory.
• In net,
Jaiden Mitchell played all 60 minutes for EOU and racked up 12 saves in the win.
For the Pirates
• Madison Perry led the way with four goals and one assist.
• Carcie Chappell had three goals and an assist. She also forced two turnovers to tie the team lead.
• Kylee Walker also tallied three goals and had a pair of ground ball pickups.
• Madison Gotthardt and Tori Schauer split time at goalie. Schauer led the way in saves with 10, while Gatthardt had six.
