LEWISTON, Idaho – Eastern Oregon University Baseball suffered a pair of tough losses Saturday afternoon as the Mountaineers fell in the series opener against No. 9 Lewis-Clark State College in two shortened contests. With the losses, EOU falls to 3-15 overall and 3-11 in Cascade Collegiate Conference Play.
Game 1 – LC State 12, Eastern Oregon 1 (7 Innings)
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers managed just five hits in the shortened series opener, while the Warriors (20-2, 13-1 CCC) scored 12 runs on the help of 11 hits and a pair of EOU errors.
• The game was scoreless through the first two innings as the only hits from in that span came from EOU. They had two hits in the first on singles from
Brooks Dyer and
Carsten Manderbach. The scoring for LC State started in the third with four on three hits.
• An RBI sacrifice fly scored the first run before a triple and two run home run brought in the next three to give LC State a 4-0 advantage. The Mountaineers lone run came in the top of the fourth when
Elliott Marks hit a single to the shortstop to score Manderbach to make it 4-1.
• The Warriors opened up their lead in the fifth scoring five runs to lead 9-1. A two-run home run pushed the score to 6-1. An RBI single up the middle plated another run in to give LC State a 6-1 advantage. Another RBI single and a stolen base brought in the final two runs of the frame.
• The final three runs for the Warriors came in the bottom of the sixth as a two RBI triple to left center field scored the first two. Leading 11-1, LC State was able to get the final run in thanks in part to a fielding error by the Mountaineers to bring the score to its final of 12-1.

Brooks Dyer tallied two hits in three at bats.

Carsten Manderbach scored the lone run and was 1-2 at the plate.
• Elliot Marks finished 1-3 and had one RBI.

Kyle Lund pitched 4.2 innings in the start and had one strikeout.
For the Warriors
• Brock Ephan was 2-3 with four RBI, a triple, two home runs, and scored three runs to lead LC State.
• Sam Linscott went 2-4 and had two RBI to go along with three runs scored as well.
• A.J. Davis finished 1-3 and had two RBI in the win.
• Jack Johnson had two hits in four at bats and scored two runs to go along with one RBI.
• Aidan Nagle also had two hits, going 2-3 with one RBI and scored two runs.
• Tallon Thomason went five complete innings to earn the win. He had three strikeouts.
Game 2 – LC State 10, Eastern Oregon 0 (8 Innings)
How it Happened
• The second contest was more of a struggle for EOU's bats as the team mustered just two hits in eight innings of action. On the flip side, LS State carried its momentum over from game one tallying 13 hits and scoring 0 runs.
• The Warriors got out 7-0 through the first two innings. A two RBI double down the right field line got LC State up 2-0 after one. EOU managed to fan the first two batters in the second but four hits, with three being doubles allowed the Warriors to tack one five runs and go up seven.
• LC State tacked on one run in the third to go ahead 8-0. The run came in on a bases loaded walk by the Mountaineers. The score remained 8-0 until the sixth when LC State hit an RBI single to right for the ninth run of the game.
• The game ended in the eighth inning as the Warriors were able to load the bases with a pair of singles and a walk. EOU looked to escape the jam, but a hit by pitch allowed the 10th run to come in and ended the contest at 10-0.

Dane Kelsey picked up a hit in four at bats.

Adrian Roa had one hit as well in two plate appearances.

Jacob Farnsworth pitched four complete in the loss and had four strikeouts in that span.
For the Warriors
• Brock Ephan was 2-4 with three RBI.
• Jack Johnson scored three runs and hit 2-4 with two RBI.
• Dillon Plew went 2-3 with an RBI and scored two runs.
• Trent Sellers pitched 5.2 innings in the start and picked up the win. He had nine strikeouts.
