Mountaineers Rout Lions in CCC Opener

PORTLAND – Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball picked up win No. 7 of the year Friday afternoon with an 82-48 road win over Multnomah University. The win improves the Mountaineers record to 7-2 overall and has them off to a 1-0 start in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

How it Happened
• Helping Eastern secure the road win was 50 rebounds overall, while limiting Multnomah (0-8, 0-1 CCC) to just 35. The Mountaineers' defense also held the Lions to just 29.2% shooting, while they finished at 43.5%.
• EOU also managed to limit its turnovers to single digits with nine, while forcing 16 against Multnomah. The 16 turnovers also led to 14 points for the Mounties. EOU also had help from its reserves who outscored the Lions bench 42-12.
• The first seven minutes of the opening quarter were not fast by any means as it was just a 7-7 tie. The final three minutes saw the Mountaineers offense come to life as they outscored the Lions 13-0 to close out the frame and lead 20-7.
Adyson Harris was the go to option for the Mountaineers in the final 2:57 as she scored eight of the team's 13 points. Helping her out was Macie Elliott who accounted for the other five. The duo's surge was the difference maker as EOU never allowed the Lions to get within single digits the rest of the afternoon.
• The closest the Lions got after the first quarter was early on in the second when they cut the EOU lead to 10, 22-12, with 8:33 on the clock. The effort by Multnomah made little difference as the Mountaineers outscored them 15-6 to close out the first half with a 37-18 lead.
• Part of the 15-6 surge by Eastern included a 12-2 run that opened up the lead to as much as 20 points. Beverly Slater and Jillian Albright led the offensive charge scoring a combined 10 points. Each had five to lead the way. Maddy Juul capped the run with a jumper to give EOU a commanding 34-14 lead.
• Coming out of the break, EOU kept its foot on the gas pedal and jumped out to a 22-point lead, 42-20, on a triple from Slater. The Lions looked to keep pace but the Mountaineers had an answer each time. Another deep ball from Slater had Eastern ahead 49-27 at the midway point of the quarter.
• The third quarter lead grew to as much as 28 for the Mountaineers when a late three-pointer with under a minute to play in the frame from Harris pushed the lead to 55-27. Multnomah managed to score 12 in the quarter but 18 by EOU had them in front 55-30 after three.
• The fourth quarter was once again dominated by the Mountaineers who outscored the Lions 27-17. Eastern managed to lead by as much as 40 multiple times in the final 10 minutes of play as the team cruised to a 35-point road win over the Lions.
