HELENA, Mont. - 10th-Ranked Eastern Oregon University Women's Soccer picked up its fifth win of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Saints of Carroll College on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, EOU improves to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference East Division play.
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers picked up a goal in each period to take down the Saints (1-1, 0-1 CCC) on Sunday afternoon in Helena. The Mounties totaled nine shots compared to only seven from the Saints, along with seven shots on goal to the Saints' one.
• EOU picked up the first goal of contest at the 27th minute mark when Kana Mateaki found Cailin Coupal for the goal to give the Mounties an early 1-0 advantage. After missed opportunities by both teams, the score remained 1-0 going into the break. Through the first 45 minutes of action, both the Mountaineers and Saints each put up six shots in the first half.
• The Mounties defense came out strong in the second half limiting opportunities for the Saints as they only allowed one shot and zero corner kicks in the final 20 minutes of action.
• In the 72nd minute mark, Mackinley Gregus cushioned the Mountaineers' lead with a goal to bring the game to the final score of 2-0.
• The Mountaineers were the more aggressive team in the competition committing a total of nine fouls to the Saints' six. They also finish with two more corner kicks with a 4-2 advantage in the win.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Cailin Koupal picked up one goal and finished with three shots on the day.
• Mackinley Gregus also netted a goal for the Mountaineers on two shots, both of which were on goal.
• Kana Mateaki ended the contest with two shots on goal to go along with one assist.
• Goalkeeper Kiara Fontanilla improved to 5-0 on the season for the Mounties. She had one save in 90 minutes of action.
For the Saints
• Mckenna Payne led the Saints with three shots and picked up the team's lone shot on goal.
• Katie Martin added two shots for the Saints.
• In net, Sydney Green had four saves in 68 minutes of action.
