EOU Draws 0-0 Tie With Carroll College After Double Overtime

HELENA, Mont. – 10th-Ranked Eastern Oregon University Women's Soccer tied 0-0 on the road against the Saints of Carroll College on Monday afternoon to wrap up the road series. With the tie, EOU drops to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference East Division play.

How it Happened
• For the contest, the Mountaineers and Saints (1-1-1, 0-1-1 CCC) combined for 27 total shots in 110 minutes of action on the pitch. EOU had the advantage at the end at 15-12, with a 9-8 shots on goal edge.
• EOU was disciplined through most of the contest only totaling five fouls, while the Saints had eight. The Mountaineers came out aggressive on offense getting four corner kicks and two shot attempts in the first 20 minutes of action. However, the Mounties were unable to convert on both attempts.
• Defensive play for the Saints picked up for the rest of the period as they held EOU to just one shot the rest of the frame. On the flip side, Carroll took six shots and had four come on goal. Solid play in the net from Kiara Fontanilla anchored the defense as EOU kept it scoreless at halftime.
• Things picked up on offense for Eastern in the second frame as they outshot the Saints 11-4 and had seven shots come on goal. Of the Saints four shots, only two were on goal. Despite the multitude of opportunities from the Mountaineers, the game remained scoreless and forced overtime.
• Defense once again was the theme and it was at its finest for both teams in the first OT period. Neither team let up a shot in the first 10 minute period. The Saints looked to have a chance early at a shot but an offside penalty halted any chance for the attempt.
• In the second overtime period, the Saints managed to rip off two shots on goal, but Fontanilla was poised in net and saved both. Eastern had just one shot that came on goal by Sarah Mitchell but it was also saved to end the contest in a draw.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Lindsay Balkenbush led the Mountaineers with three shots and two shots on goal.
Sarah Mitchell also had three shots for EOU, one of which was on goal.
Morgan Farrington added two shots and one shot on goal.
• In net, Kiara Fontanilla totaled eight saves in 110 minutes of action.

For the Saints
• Mckenna Payne led the Saints with two shots on the day, one of which was on goal.
