Liefke's 38 Points Helps Lift Mountaineers Over Hustlin' Owls on the Road

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Basketball picked up its second conference win of the season Saturday night with a 90-84 road victory over the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls. Helping EOU secure the victory was a 38-point performance from junior guard Sailor Liefke. With the win, Eastern Oregon improves to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in CCC play.

How it Happened
• Playing the biggest role in the Mountaineers win was the turnover battle. EOU had just eight and forced 16 against OIT (5-3, 0-3 CCC). The 16 turnovers led to 24 points for Eastern.
• Points in the paint favor OIT by just two, 36-34, while the bench play of the Hustlin' Owls kept them in the game. OIT's bench scored 39 points, while EOU had just seven.
• Shooting wise, both teams had a hot hand. EOU shot 50.8% from the floor going 33-65, while OIT was 33-63 for 52.4%.
• After a low scoring game the night before, the Mountaineers offense had a better start scoring 22 points compared to nine against SOU. OIT kept pace though and scored 26 to lead by four.
• Through the first four minutes of play, Eastern managed to grab a seven-point lead, 13-6. A triple from Sailor Liefke gave EOU the lead but OIT used a 7-0 run to tie game with 4:11 left to play.
• The two squads traded buckets the rest of the quarter and a late surge by the Hustlin' Owls gave them a 26-22 lead going into the second. OIT's late surge helped the team maintain a wire-to-wire lead in the second quarter.
• EOU got within two points a pair of times early on in the frame, but OIT found a rhythm and managed to jump ahead. They lead by 5-9 points for much of the quarter.
• The lead for the Hustlin' Owls grew to nine points a few times before a late run gave them a 10-point halftime lead. A layup from Adyson Harris with 57 seconds on the clock got EOU within five, 43-38, but OIT used a 5-0 run to go ahead 48-38 at the break.
• A big third quarter scoring surge from the Mountaineers was key in their win as they put 31 points in the frame and outscored OIT by 11 points. The 31-point quarter gave EOU a 69-68 lead going into the fourth.
• OIT managed to stay in the lead to start the third quarter, but EOU ultimately tied the game at the midway point. A layup plus a made free throw after contact from Liefke tied the game at 57-all.
• The two teams once again continued to trade points the rest of the quarter. A triple from Taylor Stricklin made it a 69-66 with 27 left on the clock before a made layup in the final seconds cut the score to 69-68.
• EOU continued its strong shooting performance with 21 fourth quarter points and held OIT to 16 for the six-point win. Eastern started the fourth with a 6-0 run to lead by seven, 75-68 early on.
• The Mountaineers never relinquished the lead the entire fourth quarter despite OIT's best efforts. The closest OIT got was two points, 75-73, with 7:33 on the clock.
• Eastern had an answer each time the Hustlin' Owls scored and held on for the win. OIT managed to shoot 48.4% in the second half, but a 55.9 shooting percentage by EOU was key in the road win.
