LA GRANDE, Ore. - Mountaineer Women's basketball picked up a signature win at home on Friday night as they handed the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors their first loss of the season, 72-70 on a last second bucket. The win inside Quinn Coliseum pushes Eastern Oregon's record to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
How it Happened
• Both teams shot the ball well with EOU edging out LC State (9-1, 3-1 CCC) 40.6%-40%. The Warriors stayed in the game going 11-34 from deep, while EOU was 8-27.
• LC State led the way in bench points, 19-15, and points in the paint, 19-15, but it was the rebounding game that paid off for EOU with a 45-40 advantage.
• 12 offensive boards by Eastern helped as well as they had six second chance points and surrendered just five points to LC State on seven.
• Both teams came out with a quick tempo in the first quarter as LC State held a 14-13 lead going into the second. Neither team led by more than three the entire frame.
• EOU managed to grab a 9-6 lead on a
Sailor Liefke triple but LC State answered with a 5-0 surge to lead 11-9 at the 3:58 mark.
• EOU tied the game at 11-all late and retook the lead on a layup from
Taylor Stricklin with just under two minutes to play. A deep three by LC State two possessions later gave them the one-point edge after one quarter.
• In the second quarter, the Warriors had their best scoring performance putting up 24 points while EOU had 16. A 7-0 run by EOU to start the quarter gave them a 20-16 lead.
• LC State responded with an 18-2 run that lasted nearly the entire quarter. The run was capped with just over 1:40 to play in the half.
• Despite the run by the Warriors, EOU never trailed by more than 10 in the second quarter and ultimately went into halftime trailing by just nine points, 38-29.Â
• Coming out of the halftime break, EOU had its best scoring quarter in the third putting up 26 points, while the Warriors had 16.
• LC State managed to lead by 10 a pair of times in the first four minutes but it never eclipsed that mark. A 9-2 run by the Mountaineers got them within three, 48-45, with 3:31 to play in the frame.
• The Warriors maintained a two possession lead late in the quarter but it was a deep three pointer from Liefke to make it a one-point game. Her shot made it a 56-55 game going into the fourth quarter.
• In the opening seconds of the fourth, a steal from
Adyson Harris led to a fastbreak layup by Liefke and gave EOU a 57-56 lead. The two squads then traded points the rest of the night.
• Midway through the fourth quarter, EOU managed to grab a five-point lead, 65-50, thanks to an 8-0 run. Helping in the run was
Haley Robinett who scored four of the team's eight points.
• Despite the surge by EOU, LC State made one last push to jump ahead. An 8-0 run late by the Warriors put them ahead 70-67 with 3:15 left to play in regulation.
• Trailing by three, EOU locked in on defense and never allowed LC State to score again, while clutch shooting down the stretch gave them the win. EOU ended the game on a 5-0 run to walk away the victor.
• A made jumper from Stricklin made it a 70-69 game with 53 seconds left to play. The Warriors missed a shot on the next possession allowing EOU to call timeout to set up the gamewinner.
• Nailing the gamewinng shot for the Mountaineers was Harris as she hit a triple from the left wing with seven seconds to play. LC State then turned the ball over on an inbounds play that ended any chances of a comeback or tie.
Mountaineers Stat Leaders

Adyson Harris' heroics capped her at 16 points in the win. She also tied the team lead in rebounds at eight and dished out four assists.

Taylor Stricklin paced the offense with 18 points on 8-14 shooting and she also had eight boards.

Sailor Liefke added 16 points as well, going 6-19 from the field. She also tallied two steals.

Macie Elliott scored a career-high 13 points off the bench on 50% shooting (5-10). She also had seven rebounds and five assists.
For the Warriors
• Callie Stevens led all players with a game-high 20 points shooting 6-13 overall and going 4-9 from deep.
• Hannah Broyles was the only other double-digit scorer with 14 points on 6-12 shooting.
• Maddie Hold chipped in nine points in the loss and had a game-high 11 rebounds.
