Mountaineers Blowout Wolves to Run Win Streak to Three

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball extended its win streak three straight Saturday night with a 77-54 rout of Walla Walla University at home. The Mountaineers win improves their record to 7-6 overall, 4-1 in conference play, and puts them at 2-0 inside Quinn Coliseum.

How it Happened
• The Mountaineers shot the ball well for the 40-minute span going 30-71 for 42.3% and was 12-33 from three-point range for 36.4%. Defensively, EOU held WWU (1-11, 0-5 CCC) to just 35.3% from the floor.
• Playing a huge role in the win for Eastern was bench play as their reserves scored a staggering 41 points, while the Wolves' bench produced just two points.
• In the paint, the Mountaineers put up 30 points to just 10 by the Wolves. EOU won the rebounding battle 46-30 and had a 7-3 edge in second chance points.
• In the first 20 minutes of play, the Mountaineers' offense had a solid rhythm shooting 48.6% from the floor. They also added eight three pointers in two quarters of action.
• In the first quarter, the Wolves looked to keep pace with EOU scoring 16 points but EOU went into the second quarter leading 21-16. 
• It was a 7-7 tie with just over 3:45 to play in the frame before EOU created some separation. A 9-2 run gave the Mountaineers a 16-9 lead that helped them stay ahead by five after one quarter.
• In the second quarter, EOU was simply dominant on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they held the Wolves to just eight points and scored 25 to lead 45-24 at the break.
• It was a 26-22 game early on in the second, but the close score did not last long. EOU used a 16-0 run that lasted the majority of the quarter and gave the team a 42-22 lead with 2:23 left in the half.
• The Wolves ultimately never recovered from the large surge by the Mountaineers who went into the locker room leading 45-24.
• The second half saw EOU put up 32 points while the Wolves added 30 in the same span. The only quarter the Wolves outscored the Mountaineers in was the fourth, 20-17.
• In the third quarter, the closest Walla Walla got was within 16 points in the first four minutes of play but it made little difference. EOU led by double figures the entire half and took a 26-point lead, 60-34, into the fourth quarter.
• The Wolves never managed to close the gap to under 20 in the final frame and barely outscored the Mountaineers by three. The largest lead for EOU was 27, 72-45, after a layup by Ella Dunlap at the midway point as they cruised to the blowout win.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Sailor Liefke paced the offense with 15 points in 19 minutes of action. She shot 5-8 overall and was 4-7 from deep.
• Haley Robinett led the way in rebounding with a game-high of eight and added 10 points.
• Aliann Schmidt scored 10 points off the bench going 3-4 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from deep.
• Taylor Stricklin also scored 10 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. 
• Rounding out the double-digit scorers was Leilani Padilla with 10 points in just nine minutes of play.

For the Wolves
• Carolina Montes-Estrada led all scorers with 27 points on 9-18 shooting and was 4-5 from deep.
• Clara Wiltgen chipped in nine points on 3-7 shooting and dished out four assists.
• Paulina Quintana and Holly Harrison each tied the game-high in rebounds with eight.
