Mountaineers Drop Defensive Match-Up Against Raiders

ASHLAND, Ore. - Mountaineer Women's Basketball came up short of its second straight conference win Friday night in a 55-47 loss to Southern Oregon on the road in what was a defensive battle the whole night. With the loss, Eastern Oregon falls to 4-6 on the year and 1-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

How it Happened
• Defense rang true the whole game as the Mountaineers held the Raiders (8-1, 2-0 CCC) to a 35.5 shooting percentage, while EOU was limited to 38.3% shooting.
• Playing the biggest role in SOU's narrow victory was points off turnovers. Souther forced 30 EOU turnovers which led to 23 points. 
• Both teams' reserves scored 10 points, while the Raiders had the edge in the post scoring 38 points, while Eastern scored 26. 
• Despite the loss, EOU continued its strong play on the glass grabbing 45 boards, while the Raiders had 30 in 40 minutes of play.
• The first quarter was the lowest scoring of the night as the two squads combined for just 15 total points. The Mountaineers had the advantage leading 9-6 going into the second quarter.
• The second quarter did not see either offense do much better. Both teams scored just 11 points as defense was key on both sides going into halftime.
• Through the first 20 minutes of play, Adyson Harris was the Mountaineers leading scorer with six points as they led 20-17 at the break. Sailor Liefke and Taylor Strickin had three points, respectively.
• In the second half, offense picked up on both sides but the Raiders had the better outcome outsourcing EOU 38-27.
• In the third quarter, Souther put up 20 points and held the Mountaineers to 12 points, which was just one point more than their second quarter output. 
• Eastern led 26-21 early on in the third before a 7-2 run by SOU tied the game at 28-all. With 3:09 to play in the quarter, Southern outscored EOU 9-4 to lead 37-32 going into the fourth. 
• In the final frame, Southern managed to jump ahead by as much as nine in the first five minutes and eventually grabbed a 10-point lead, 48-38, with 4:54 left in regulation.
• Eastern looked to make a comeback and got within three, 48-45, in the final three minutes of play. Despite EOU's best efforts, Souther had an answer and slipped by with the eight-point win, 55-47.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Adyson Harris paced the offense with 12 points on 6-11 shooting.
• Sailor Liefke was the only other double figure scorer with 11 points.
• Taylor Stricklin chipped in eight points and had a game-high 14 rebounds.

For the Raiders
• Kami Walk scored a game-high 20 points and had a team best 13 rebounds for a double-double.
• Brianna Phiakhamngon added 10 points in the win.
• Syd'Nee Fryer chipped in nine points, grabbed seven boards, and dished out six assists. She also had four steals.

By the Numbers
14 - Taylor Stricklin's 14 boards are a new single-game career high.
9 - EOU has outrebounded its opponents in nine games this season.
6 - Eastern has grabbed double-digit offensive boards in six games following the 12 on Friday.
18 - The Mountaineers made 18 shots and went 18-47 in each of their last two games.
4 - Eastern had won its last four games on the road against SOU prior to Friday's loss.
