Battlin' Bears Hold Off Mountaineers in Overtime Battle

LEWISTON, Idaho - Eastern Oregon Women's Basketball suffered its second loss of the year Friday afternoon in a hard fought overtime battle against Rocky Mountain College, 75-68. The Mountaineers loss puts their record at an even 2-2 for the young season.

How it Happened
• Despite holding Rocky (2-0) to just 38.9% shooting, Eastern surrendered 23 points off 11 turnovers in the loss. 
• Four players finished in double figures for the Battlin' Bears, including two 20-point performances to hold off the Mountaineers and remain undefeated.
• Neither team shot the ball well from deep as the both teams  went just 7-22 for 31.8%. Overall EOU shot the ball a bit better going 25-61 from the floor for 41%.
• In the first quarter, the Battlin' Bears raced out to a 10-2 lead and held the Mountaineers without a made field goal for the first six minutes.
• The first made shot of the quarter came at the 4:07 mark on a made jumper from Ami Tia. The shot made it a 10-4 game but Eastern found its stride late in the quarter.
• With under two minutes left in the first quarter, Rocky led 15-8. EOU then went on a quick 5-0 run to end the frame and cut its deficit to just two points, 15-13.
• In the second quarter, the Battlin' Bears went back ahead by four, 20-16, to start but the Mountaineers kept within two possessions before taking the lead.
• Rocky held a 25-20 lead with 6:31 to play in the half, but Eastern was able to put together an 8-0 run to jump ahead 28-25. Rocky answered with back-to-back triples to go ahead 31-28.
• Defense locked in for the Mountaineers in the final two minutes as they held the Battlin' Bears scoreless. Haley Robinett put up a layup followed by a deep three-pointer from Sailor Liefke that gave EOU the 33-31 lead at the break.
• In the first half, the Mountaineers shot 12-24 from the field for 50% and was 2-4 from deep. Despite having eight turnovers, EOU held Rocky to just 36.1% shooting (13-36) in the half.
• Coming out of halftime, Rocky quickly put up four points to go ahead 35-33 but a layup from Brandy Smith tied the contest at 35-all with 7:51 to play in the third. It became a stalemate the next few minutes.
• A made layup from Adyson Harris at the 4:37 mark got EOU within one, 40-39. Harros' made shot sparked a quick 5-0 run by the Mountaineers as a three-pointer from Liefke put them ahead 42-40 late in the third.
• The two squads traded three-pointers in the final two minutes of the frame, but it was EOU that had the advantage. A triple from Liefke gave Eastern a 48-47 lead going into the fourth quarter.
• An early three by Taylor Stricklin in the fourth gave EOU a 51-47 lead, but it did not last long. The Battlin' Bears went on a 6-0 run to lead 56-51 with 6:21 to play in the game.
• The run by Rocky helped them stay in front by two possessions, but a late run by EOU made things tight late in regulation. Back-to back buckets from Stricklin made it a 59–57 game as Rocky's lead was at just two.
• Regulation time ultimately was not enough as the score was deadlocked at 63-63 to force overtime. In OT, Rocky used a fast start to down the Mountaineers for the win.
• The Battlin' Bears opened OT with an 8-1 run that made it a 71-64 game. The quick start was enough as they held EOU to just five points to hold on for a 75-68 win.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Taylor Stricklin paced the offense with 20 points on 7-12 shooting. She also led the way in rebounding with nine.
• Sailor Liefke shot 5-12 from the floor and was 50% 93-6) from deep to finish with 17 points.
• Adyson Harris added 11 points off the bench while shooting 5-13 and was second in boards with six.
• Maddy Juul chipped in seven points and grabbed four rebounds in the loss. 

For the Battlin' Bears
• N'Dea Flye scored a game-high 24 points on 8-21 made shots and had a game best 11 rebounds for the double-double.
• Shauna Bribiescas put 20 points on 7-13 shooting and grabbed six boards.
• Taylor Stephens added 15 points in the win on a perfect 6-6 shooting and had a pair of steals.
• Mackenzie Detham rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

By the Numbers
5 - The Mountaineers were held to just five points in OT.
11 - EOU's 11 offensive rebounds are the most in a game this season.
3 - The Mountaineers had three blocked shots in the contest, which is the most this season.
4 - Eastern has outrebounded its opponents in all four games this season.
