BILLINGS, Mont. - No. 20 Eastern Oregon Women's Soccer got back to its winning ways on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of Rocky Mountain College on the road. With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 9-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference action.
How it Happened
• For the contest, the Batllin' Bears (5-4-2, 1-4-0 CCC) did outshoot the Mountaineers, 10-7, but the shots on goal went to EOU, 6-2 as Rocky never found the back of the net.
• Both teams came out playing well on defense as neither allowed the other to score for the majority of the first period. EOU ended the scoreless bout though in the 30th minute of play.
• A corner kick from
Kaitlyn McLeod was perfectly placed to the head of
Erika Skindlov for the goal. Skindlov hit the upper right end of the net from five yards out to give EOU a 1-0 lead.
• The Mountaineers continued to move the ball and apply offensive pressure in the final 15 minutes and it paid off on a goal from McLeod.
• McLeod pushed her point total to three when she got up the middle and played a pass from
Alexandria Segeberg. McLeod popped the ball over the goalkeeper's head from six yards out to make it a 2-0 game in the 43rd minute.
• Going into halftime, EOU and Rocky were tied in shots taken at four apiece, but Eastern had all four shots come on goal, while Rocky had just one.
• The entire second period, EOU relied on its defense as they relied on ball movement and tough physical play to keep the Battlin' Bears from scoring.
• The Mountaineers tacked on one final goal in the final two minutes of play when
Lindsay Balkenbush fired a shot from the left side to score and bring the match to its final of 3-0.
• Eastern took just three shots in the second period with two coming on goal. Rocky Mountain doubled that with six shots but had just one come on goal in the loss.
