Eagles Slip Past Mountaineers, 2-1, in Kirkland

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Mountaineer Women's Soccer dropped just its second road game of the season Friday afternoon in a 2-1 loss at Northwest University. Eastern Oregon now moves to 10-5-0 overall and is now 7-5-0 in CCC play.

How it Happened
• Lifting the Eagles (8-6-3, 7-2-2 CCC) to the win was a pair of first period goals and a defense that held EOU scoreless in that same span.
• For the match, both teams finished with 16 shots and both had 10 come on goal. Corner kicks favored EOU at 5-4.
• The Eagles first goal of the frame was in the first 10 minutes of play. Callie Wright netted the first of two goals scored. She found the back of the net in the ninth minute to make it 1-0.
• The score remained at 1-0 for much of the first period until the 35th minute. Wright once again scored to make it a 2-0 game going into the halftime break.
• Offensively, Eastern had just five shots in the first period while the Eagles put u[ 14, with eight being on goal. EOU had three shots on goal.
• The Mountaineers avoided the shutout with a goal in the 62nd minute. Mackinley Gregus scored the lone EOU goal on an assist from Katie Arnold.
• Trailing 2-1, EOU applied pressure in the second period finishing with 11 shots, while the team's defense kept Northwest at just two.
• Seven of the Mountaineers' 11 shots came on goal, while the Eagles two shots were both on goal. 
• Eastern was unable to net a game tying goal to potentially force overtime. Play was aggressive from both teams as they combined for 32 ghoul. NU had 17 to 15 by EOU.

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
Mackinley Gregus had the lone goal off the bench. She finished with two shots, both of which were on goal.
Katie Arnold tallied the assist in the loss. She also had two shots taken in the game.
Alexandria Segeberg led the way in shots with four and had three come on goal. 
• Goalkeeper Madeline Barker had eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

For the Eagles
• Callie Wright scored both goals and took a game-high six shots with three being on goal.
• Claire Jo Diede was credited with the assist on the first Wright goal. She finished with four shots and had two be on frame.
• In Net, Kiersten Patefield racked up nine saves in the win.

By the Numbers
2 - Friday's loss is just the second on the road this season for EOU.
26 - Mackinley Gregus' goal on Friday is the 26th of her career which now ranks third most in program history.
2016 - EOU has not won on the road against the Eagles since 2016.
