EOU Suffers First Ever Shutout Inside Community Stadium in 2-0 Loss to OIT

LA GRANDE, Ore. - No. 18 Eastern Oregon University Women's Soccer suffered its first home loss since 2019 Friday night as the Mountaineers were shutout, 2-0, by Oregon Tech. With the loss, EOU falls to 9-2-0 overall and is now 6-2-0 in conference play.

How it Happened
• Helping the Owls (9-2-0, 6-1-0 CCC) secure the win on the road was a 15-5 edge in shots taken including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Aggressive play was shown on both sides with the match ending evenly at 12 fouls for both teams.
• The first 45 minutes of play was scoreless as both squads kept everything in front of them. OIT had chances with six shots taken with four being on goal. EOU was held to just two shots with both coming on goal.
• Going into the halftime break was a scoreless game and physical one. OIT had two more fouls than EOU, 6-4, but had a four-shot advantage.
• The Hustlin' Owls ended the scoreless affair in the 53rd minute on a goal from Nyah Kendal. She got inside the middle portion of the penalty area and played an assist from Kiah Wetzell to the right side of the net to make it a 1-0 game.
• The score remained in OIT's favor for the majority of the second frame before a second goal in the 72nd minute made it a 2-0 contest. Wetzell scored this time around taking a pass in stride from Amanda Seward and won the 1v1 showdown against Madeline Barker.
• OIT finished the second period with nine shots total and had four come on goal once again. Eastern was limited to just three with two coming on goal. 

Mountaineers Stat Leaders
• Lindsay Balkenbush led EOU with two shots in the contest and both came on goal.
• Chloe Flynn and Mackinley Gregus each had one shot that came on goal.
• In net, Madeline Barker tallied seven saves.

For the Hustlin' Owls
• Kiah Wetzell had three points to lead all players with a goal scored and an assist. She had two shots in the win, both of which came on goal.
• Nyah Kendall had a game-high three shots, all on goal, and scored the gamewinning goal.
• Amanda Seward had an assist and finished with one shot that came on goal.
• Alyx Burkhartzmeyer tallied three saves in the shutout.

By the Numbers
2 - Friday's loss is just the second ever at home for EOU under the direction of Jacob Plocher
2 - The Mounties loss is just the second ever at Community Stadium since the turf was installed in 2018.

• The Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 16 against in-state rival Southern Oregon for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT inside Community Stadium. At the conclusion of the match, EOU will honor eight seniors for their contributions to the program.
