EOU Women's Basketball Dominates Wolves 96-55

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team ran away with their 18th win of the season and ninth in a row Saturday night at Walla Walla 96-55 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The win improves EOU's record to 18-7 and 12-3 in the CCC as they extended their longest winning streak of the year. 
 
Leading the Mountaineers was senior Whitney Meier, who accumulated 15 points while shooting 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Junior Megan Still had a game of her own tallying 14 points shooting 5-for-9 on field goals while juniors Tywanna Abbott had 12 points and Taylor Stricklin had nine. The team shot 36-for-65 on field goals and shot 46 percent from beyond the arc. They also managed 52 rebounds, with Jillian Albright collecting 10 of her own to lead the team, along with six steals.  
  
HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting off with a six point lead after two back- to-back three's by Stricklin and Still, Eastern was off to a powerful first few minutes. With a 12 point lead with two minutes left in the first quarter,18-6, the Mountaineers were controlling the Wolves early.

Starting the second quarter just like they did the first, with their second three's of the night, Stricklin and Still made back-to-back shots from behind the arc, making it 27-11. Joining in on the three point party, Jane Nelson, Brandy Smith, and Meier crushed another four three's in just the second quarter alone, leading by 26 points at the half 49-23.

Going into the third quarter, the Mountaineers went on run after run, racking up eight and then 10 points at a time with no answer back from the Wolves. Starting the fourth quarter at 73-38, the Mountaineers had their biggest lead of the season of 35 points since their first game of the year against Yellowstone Christian.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
13 - The Mountaineer's made a total of 13 three's on the night, a team high for the season. They connected on six three pointers in just the second quarter alone. 
 
41 - EOU led Walla Walla by as many as 41 points, their largest lead against a CCC team all season.
 
12 - The Blue and Gold had 12 scorers in the game, with 12 different players playing at least 12 minutes. 
 
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers play their second game against the Wolves on Sunday at 2 p.m. in College Place. The Sunday matchup is the rescheduled game from Friday, February 7.
