Mounties Fall 77-68 at Corban

PENDLETON, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's basketball's four-game winning streak ended on Friday night as they fell 77-68 at Corban in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers (15-13, 9-10 CCC) control their own destiny to finish as the No. 6 seed with a chance at the No. 5 seed in the CC tournament, thanks to losses by Northwest Christian and Warner Pacific. The teams remain in a three-way tie heading to the final game of the regular season, with EOU matching up with NCU and Warner Pacific against Southern Oregon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Most of the first half went back-and-forth as the Mountaineers took the lead 23-22 with 6:31 after an Andreas Brown three pointer. 12 seconds later, the Warriors claimed the lead with a basket and next looked back as EOU never tied or led again. Corban used a run of nine points to jump ahead 31-23 over EOU and led by eight at halftime 39-31.

The Warriors continued their momentum into the second half, leading 50-39 with 16:24 to play. The Mounties cut the deficit down to five points 59-54 with 9:55 after a Jarek Schetzle free throw.

However, Corban went on a 15-4 run over the next five minutes to lead 72-58, putting the game out of reach.

The Mountaineers were led offensively by junior Max McCullough, who scored 23 points with four steals, three assists and three rebounds. Senior Jarek Schetzle had 16 points with nine rebounds.

Corban had four players in double-digits including Jason Marr and Tyler Wadleigh with 14 each, AJ Hodges with 13 and Denis Kirichenko with 12.
