EOU Women's Basketball Falls to Warriors 56-67

SALEM, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon women's basketball team was defeated 67-56 on the road against Corban, ending their 12-game win streak on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers will still compete for a share of their 4th-straight CCC title on Saturday, taking on 16-3 Northwest Christian. If EOU wins, they will share the title with the Beacons.

Leading the Mountaineers (21-8, 15-4 CCC) was senior Jane Nelson who tallied 16 points, finishing 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.  Senior Whitney Meier punched in nine points going 3-for-8 from the field and 100% at the free throw line. Junior Megan Still earned eight points of her own along with three rebounds. Fellow junior Jillian Albright collected seven points, two rebounds and two steals. The Mountaineers shot 27% from the floor and were 8-for-35 from three point range on a tough shooting night for EOU.

EOU's 12-game winning streak came to end, sandwiched by two losses the Warriors who have been one of the few teams to defeat Eastern this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Facing some of their toughest competition of the season, the Mountaineers were battling every step of the way against the Warriors (16-11, 12-7 CCC). The teams stayed within five points of each other early, with the lead changing hands multiply ties. The Mountaineers ended the first quarter up by only three points at 17-14.

However, not willing to give up the lead, the Warriors tied it 17-17 to start the second quarter after a good three point shot. The tight competition didn't allow much wiggle room in the second as the Mountaineers attempted to gain some ground, but the Warriors stayed consistent and led by four, 30-26, going into halftime.

The Warriors had their best quarter of the game in the third, earning 22 points to Eastern's 14 to grab an 11-point advantage. The Warriors led by a large margin at 52-38 late in the third and to start the fourth quarter they increased that lead to 20 at 60-40 and then 67-44 with 3:26 left to play. But showing resilency, the Mountaineers made a huge push in the last three minutes going on a 12-point run. However, the Mountaineers ran out of time and the final score ended 67-56.

BY THE NUMBERS
33 - EOU had a team total of 33 rebounds to Corban's 43.

UP NEXT
The Mountaineer's continue their road weekend tomorrow with their final CCC regular season game of the season against the Northwest Christian Beacons.
