#18 Mountaineers Suffer 33-8 Loss to #5 Clackamas CC

LA GRANDE. – The No. 18 Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team hosted a tough opponent in No. 5-ranked Clackamas Community College, falling 33-8 on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.

The Cougars dumped out to a 22-0 lead through the first five matches thanks to wins by forfeit, fall, major decision and two decisions. No. 15-ranked senior Blake McNall battled the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the NJCAA in Marckis Branford, falling by just a 2-1 score at 133 pounds.

The Mountaineers (11-4) answered in the next two matches as junior Josh Pine lifted the crowd with a pin early in the second period, earning the team's first points to make it 22-6.

No. 12-ranked Keegan Mulhill followed the momentum with an 9-2 decision win over No. 10-ranked Dax Bennett. Both wrestlers received an unsportsmanlike after the match to reduce each team's score by one, making it 21-8 after seven matches.

The Cougars went onto win the next three matches by two decisions, followed by a pin to end the night with the 33-8 win.

The Mountaineers continue the busy weekend on Saturday with three more duals. EOU will host North Idaho College at 1 p.m., followed by Warner Pacific and Providence at 5 p.m.
