No. 18 EOU Downs Northwest 85-80 to Complete Road Sweep

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 18 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team used another all-around team game to defeat Northwest University 85-80 and sweep the road trip on Saturday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers (11-7, 5-3 CCC) had five players in double-digit scoring for the second night in a row as they showed their depth of scoring. Senior Jane Nelson had a team-high of 18 points, hitting a big three with 35 seconds left that gave EOU a four-point lead.

EOU led by just two points with nine seconds left, but Megan Still knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the lead to four points. After a NU missed shot, Still made another free-throw to ice the game. The junior guard went for 12 points, four rebounds and three assists on the night.

Senior Whitney Meier came off the bench to score 15 points, all off her five made three pointers as she went 5-for-11 from behind the arc. Senior Rachel Fielder scored 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting. A night after tying the single-game assists record for EOU, senior Emma Logan scored 11 points with six rebounds and six more assists. Senior Kylie Smith and junior Taylor Stricklin led the team with nine rebounds apiece. Smith had eight points and Stricklin added four.

The Mounties came out of the games very slowly in the opening quarter, shooting under 32 percent and trailed 16-13. EOU burst out in the second quarter with 23 points taking a nine-point lead at halftime.

Overall, one of the Mountaineers' most impressive stats was their 23 assists to just 11 turnovers on the night. EOU spread the ball around efficiently and limited the giveaways.

Grace Meza came off the bench for Northwest (4-13, 2-5 CCC) and led the Eagles with 19 points.

The Blue and Gold will remain on the road next week for one game, battling in the I-84 rivalry matchup at College of Idaho on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time.
